Weather Exchange

For those of you who like to have the current temperature in your system tray and easy access to your current weather conditions we recommend Weather Exchange. As desktop weather applications go, it's benign, easy on your system resources, and doesn't feed you a lot of advertising. It utilizes the network of amateur weather stations supported by Weather Underground and will show you the conditions on all stations within a thirty mile radius of your location. It provides easy access to animated radar and National Weather Service alerts and advisories plus a long list of national and regional weather maps.

Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget

We apologize if this recommendation has led anyone to believe that the Windows Vista operating system is worth having. IT IS NOT. The sidebar gadget is cool but it in no way compensates for the totally poor way that Windows Vista implements network sharing and other fairly obvious (to geeks) deficiencies. If you are already burdened with the operating system, then maybe the sidebar gadget will offer some small relief, but I doubt it.

The Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget gives you current conditions from the Weather Underground station of your choice. In addition you can opt to view a 3 day forcast. A wing panel can be opened to view local radar, more detailed weather conditions, and a thumbnailed view of a webcam of your choosing. If you've made the move to the new Windows operating system already then you will want this one. It's very slick. If you haven't made the move... then don't.
