SYSTEM NOTE: ECNC Weather has deployed a new weather station. The station has capabilities beyond what the decommissioned unit had. As a result we will be redesigning our data displays and upgrading several aspects of the sites operation. You can expect to see the changes happen gradually over the next few weeks. (18FEB08)
ECNC Weather is being developed to bring users timely and reliable information about the weather in Elizabeth City, NC and surrounding counties along the Intracoastal Waterway and Albemarle Sound.
It is worthy of note that the data presented here is updated on a minute-by-minute basis as opposed to other weather networks whose data originates with the local airport (ECG). The local airport inputs data manually once per hour (not to detract from them, weather is NOT their primary function). While it's not possible for us to guarantee timeliness or accuracy we do a pretty good job with very few 'fallouts'.
Data collection is done by a Davis Vantage Pro2+ wireless weather station. Data collation and website integration is managed by Virtual Weather Station software. The VWS software also supplies information to Weather Underground which is a nationwide network of similar amateur weather stations. Our call-sign on Weather Underground is KNCELIZA1.
VWS is running on an Acer computer supplied by Coastal Office Equipment & Computers which is located near the waterfront at 501 East Church Street in Elizabeth City.
The waterfront camera is a Stardot Megapixel Netcam. It produces still images of greater than one megapixel in about 3 seconds. We've elected to have it upload pictures at one minute intervals as the best compromise between bandwith use and user interest. In addition, the camera image is uploaded to Weather Underground's new Webcam Gallery.
Users may need to click 'REFRESH' to be sure of seeing the latest data. Do not rely solely on information from this website to make decisions which may affect your life or property. User is encouraged to utilize information from the National Weather Service and other official sources during potentially dangerous weather situations.
